Wentworth Point to become Sydney’s newest waterfront suburb with 2300 new homes
Publish Time: 27/06/14

About 2300 homes are to be built on former industrial land at Wentworth Point adjoining Sydney Olympic Park where the ParramattaRiver morphs into SydneyHarbour.

Planning Minister Pru Goward said the new 18 hectare development was ideally placed.

“Wentworth Point lies between Sydney’s two CBDs – the city and Parramatta – and means families can buy or rent homes close to jobs, transport and parks right on the edge of Sydney Harbour,” Ms Goward said.

Ms Goward said the growth would be supported by a new eastbound on-ramp from Hill Rd, which will link to the M4 motorway and WestConnex, an upgrade of the Sydney Olympic Park ferry wharf and a new 18-classroom school with playing fields to be built by 2017.

New parks would be built across one third of the precinct, including a 3.9 hectare park around the peninsula.

“Smarter planning means identifying under-utilised land where new homes can be built close to jobs and transport services,” Ms Goward said.

“The transformation of Wentworth Point into a vibrant community supporting 2,300 new homes will occur as improvements to local transport links are also coming on line, and this announcement follows lengthy consultation with council and the community.”

Wentworth Point was reclaimed from mudflats on the riverbanks and is set to boast a marina, a promenade and dry storage for up to 200 boats.

Ms Goward said said the rezoning plans had received ‘’strong support’’ when placed on exhibition last year.
